Going to court can be an intimidating experience for victims and witnesses. Our goal is to make the encounter as positive as possible. A Victims’ Advocate works closely with victims and witnesses to give support, information and referrals to help lessen the impact for victims and witnesses confronted with the harsh realities of crime.
The Advocates:
• Answer questions
• Explain the criminal justice process
• Act as a liaison between the victim and prosecutor
• Accompany victims/witnesses to court
• Provide updates about progress of case
• Maintain contact with victims and families throughout prosecution of the case
• May refer victims for counseling, therapy, or other services
• Assist with filing for compensation from the Crime Victims Compensation Board.
